Canyon Lake Striper fishing has been very productive lately with average size catches being in the 20" range. Clouser minnow patterns in gray and white fished with a full sinking line has worked best lately in 25-40 feet of water and also on the surface under feeding birds. Last week we had a 20 fish day on the lake, with the smallest being around 17 and the largest being around 25". Black bass are also being caught on similiar patterns in the 2-6lb range. The weather should be holding for us this week to get out and catch some more and hopefully find some bigger fish! We are currently fishing out of our 18ft bay boat untill August while our new custom technical polling skiff is being built. We will be in Port O Connor next week chasing Tarpon and searching for some tailing redfish.

We are now taking reservations for saltwater trips for September-November when the Redfish and big trout will be at its best! If you are interested in taking a trip give us a call and we will get you on the schedule for either the saltwater, lake or the numerous great fishing rivers in our area.

Not only is the river full of Trout, but also big spawning Bass, Catfish, Striper, Carp and Whitebass. Right now we have so many opportunities to fish so many bodies of water, the Guadalupe River (both above the lake and below) the Llano, the Colorado and San Marcos rivers all are producing! Now exclusively at ReelFly we have the best deal for your spring time new fly rod. For years people have been asking for a reasonably priced fast action all around rod, well it's finally here! For a limited time we are offering the Redington Predator rod with a Surge reel spooled with floating line in a travel case for $329.00! This combo retails elsewhere for $425.00 and we are bringing it to you for more than $100 off! The predator rod is one of the best rods I've ever casted, extremely fast, very strong and available in lengths from 7'11" to 9', 6wt through 12wts. These combos wont last long, come by and cast one and see the new inventory of rods, men's and women's fishing apparel, new tying products and Reelfly hats and shirts. New inventory arriving daily.

Started off the spring bass season with a bang! We floated the Devils River for two days followed by a one day float trip on the south Llano with great success! Despite the harsh head winds upward of 35mph and the full moon curse we managed to land several good size fish on the fly. ReelFly Fishing Adventures is now offering overnight camping trips on some excellent rivers for very affordable prices. For overnight trips we have a 8 person lodge type tent that easily sleeps your group on comfortable cots. For overnight trips we require four anglers and use both drift boats to accomodat 4ppl to two full days of guided fishing on the Colorado River, Llano River and Devils River. I would highly recommend the Redington Predator rod for your spring season, the rod easily cast big flies through 30mph + winds with amazing accuracy. The Predator is now my favorite bass rod and you can pick this affordable rod up at our fly shop in Sattler. Call now to reserve your spot for the spring and summer months! Fishing is awesome now.....and getting even better by the day!

Fished with Ashley in Ryans new Aire boat on Tuesday. Despite the full moon curse, we had some good luck fishing and the weather and scenery were awesome! The better patterns were again, size 20 olive scuds, Caddis Poopah and pink San Juan Worms. Along the way we turned over rocks and identified some different bugs, and found a huge number of everything! In the upcoming weeks I would seriously stock up on Caddis, from larvae to dries and have several colors of midge patterns on hand. Mayfly nymphs were also very prevelant and almost every rock had one under it from size 12-22. All and all we landed around 15 fish and missed several others either from break-offs or just not paying attention when the indicator went under. We have one more stocking from GRTU VERY soon, so trout fishing will contunie to be good and you should start catching some smallies pretty soon with buggers along the banks in the deeper pools. Get it, while the getting is good!

Well, good news everyone!....Trout Unlimited will begin stocking trout soon on the Guadalupe River and TPWD is said to begin stocking around the first part of December. The fish need a good 24 hours to acclimate and settle in. The river is low but floatable and the water is gin clear; as I stated in the last news article, make sure to have a good pair of wading boots because the rocks are slick with algae. The river is currently running just under 60cfs and water temps vary from 58 at the dam to around 62- 5 miles downstream. Again, there are still some hogs left from last year still in the river and with the upcoming stocking we should see many more after this weekend. We're set to have nice fall weather in the mid 70's through next week. Its about that time to grab a buddy or family member and get down here and enjoy Hill Country fishing at its best! Here at ReelFly we've been scouting the river to find some different options to float and fish. We've found several great areas, away from the crowds, that have good currents for drift fishing. We're still offering unbeatable prices on trips and lodging so, call now to reserve your spot! 830 899-6177 or 830 515-7285

The fishing is great on the Colorado River! Currently the river has had reduced flows providing for very clear and skinny water. Fishing conditions for bass....especially small-mouth bass, are excellent! We've had great luck on various clouser minnow patterns and some top water patterns. If you're an experienced fly fisherman, it's very likely to land anywhere from 50+ fish in a days trip! The weather, river quality and fishing action is making this time an especially great time to get out and fish.

Over the next few weeks, we're offering a FANTASTIC DEAL for anyone interested in experiencing a day trip on the Colorado River. From NOW UNTIL NOVEMBER 21, We're offering a two night stay in our cabin with a full day guided trip on the Colorado River for $425.
After enjoying a great day of fishing in the cooler temps, take the opportunity to sit around a campfire at The Creel, admire the hill country views, soak in hot tub and just.... RELAX! Dates are very limited; as of now we have only a few spots left: Nov 6th & 7th, 15& 16th, 18th & 19th and 21st & 22ND. Call now to RESERVE A TRIP!

Father and son, Jerry and Roy came down from the DFW area to fish the San Marcos and Colorado Rivers this week. The fishing was consistent with average size bass being caught in the 1-2lb range. Chartreuse and natural color Clouser minnows worked well for us on the Colorado, while top water plugs and Clousers worked on the San Marcos River. Smallmouth, Largemouth and Guadalupe bass are all biting well and it's been common to catch all three species in a full day’s trip. Water clarity has been very good on both rivers allowing us to do some sight casting and visualize almost every take! The weather, rivers and fish are all being very cooperative right now allowing for a great time to get out and do some fishing!

We fished a full day on the San Marcos River. The fishing was hit and miss, but the river and weather was great. We enjoyed a nice scenic trip with scattered bass and perch along the way. John hooked up with a gar and they pulled in several Guadalupe and largemouth bass. Now is a great time to book a trip with a friend to enjoy the shady canopy of the cool San Marcos River.

Bass fishing is great right now, on the San Marcos river we're having luck on top water poppers and the Colorado is producing nice fish on Chartruese Clousers. We fished the last two days on both rivers catching a good number of small largemouth and small mouth bass and a few nice size fish. The water in both rivers is excellent, the Colorado is getting back to clear and the San Marcos river has a perfect flow.

Fishing conditions have improved since last week. Steve and Danny from Cleburne, Texas fished a full day on 03/22/2011 and we had much better luck than the days before. We managed to hook-up around 10 fish and land about 7 or 8, all being in the 16-20" range. The flows are still way down, but the weather is nice for wet wading, the spring break crowd is gone and the fish are biting. We found hares ear nymphs to be the most productive pattern in the deeper holes, as well as blood worms and pheasant tail nymphs.

Fishing conditions contuniue to be tough, although not catching the numbers as usual, we are catching some bigger fish. Took Frank and Fred for full day trip on 03/09 and a half day on 03/10/2011, we managed about 9 or 10 hook-ups with around 5 fish in the boat the first day and around 4 hook ups with one pig landed on the half day. The flows are still very low and some of the fish are bitting very softly. We found smaller midge patterns working (size 20-22) with paying close attention to your indicator for a fast hook set. Here's one of the bigger fish of the trip.

The fish seem to be winding up their spawning dance and are starting to get back to feeding and moving around the river. Some patterns that have been working well include, Rs2's, Pheasant tails in the size 18's and 20's, March Brown Nymphs, black Serendipity 18's and Rainbow warriors among many others. Hopefully with a little more rain, the flows will increase some giving the fish more areas to move around to. February and March are booking fast, so be sure and get some dates on the books soon. See you on the river!

Fishing is getting better and better everyday. The Trout have been in spawning mode making them pre-occupied from do much feeding the last couple of weeks. We've noticed in the last couple of days however, this is starting to end and the fish are beginning to to return to their ussual feeding habits. The most prevelant hatches on the water this week have been tricos, caddis and hexgenia mayflies. The fish are getting a great deal of pressure right now due to the low water and number of anglers on the river, but making the right drift and paying close attention to detail, you'll be able to catch many big fish now.

12/28/2010
Todays fishing produced around 15-20 hookups with 10-12 landed fish. Finally getting some much needed rain!

The Guadalupe River has had some changes this year. The flows are down and the gravel deposits from the summer floods have made some of the good holes we fished last year, turn into ankle deep non-fishable riffles this year. Trout Unlimited has begun stocking and the trout are big and healthy, but be informed, some of the areas our chapter of T.U. has stocked in the previous years, have not been stocked this year. Many people are seeing good numbers of fish but are having trouble getting any to bite. The reason for this is because many of these fish that are brought in from the hatchery are in full spawn mode when they arrive and aren't extremely focused on eating right now. We've caught a number of trout spilling with eggs. Rest assured this usually only lasts a couple of weeks and the fishing will be back to normal soon. Recently we've sampled some of the areas of the river to find what the trout are feeding on and we've found several aquatic insects on the buffett. Tricos, Damsels, caddis, scuds, crawfish and tubifex worms being some of the most plentiful. Right now good patterns are peach eggs, gray woolybuggers, pheasant tail nymphs, and various size 18-20 midges. If the flows rise, add hexegenia patterns and san juan worms to your menu. Remember when you head to the river take your time and observe your surroundings, the river is shallow and clear, making the fish very spooky. Take a sample with your seine to see what bugs you're imitating and try and match what the fish are feeding on. Our next stocking will hopefully be around Christmas. Maybe we'll get some much needed rain to bring the river back up, making for excellent winter fishing! See you on the Guad!

What a great way to start the season!

2010-11 is off to an awesome start and we're very excited about the winter on the Guad. Many of the trout from last year have survived and not just that, they are hungry, fat and healthy! The river is in great shape and we are catching more fish now than ever before! We built another driftboat and we're happy to say we'll be running three boats with four guides this season, for a fraction of our competetors price. Be sure and get your trips reserved soon, as our calendar is filling up fast and we're already booking for January. We definitely want your business and will do what it takes to get it!

MORE TO LOOK FORWARD TO:

We are headed to North TX on Nov 2 to speak with the members of the Fort Worth fly fishing club about the upcoming season and the current conditions here on the Guadalupe. We're looking forward to involving them more in the local trout fishing we love so much and hope that we can direct them on river access and Hill Country activities.

From Fort Worth we are heading to Flippin Arkansas to fish the White and Norfork Rivers. We hope to catch some spawning big browns! Wish us luck!

Today I scheduled a half day trip with a new angler, Bobby Martin. He caught over 10 rainbows on DRY flies! The fish are big and healthy and the water is super clear! We started the day out by drifting and after a hooking a few we noticed many trout coming to the surface and eating bugs, so we decided to throw some dry flies and WOW! At one hole alone, we hooked into over 10 fish! It may be tubing season, but only 6 kayaks come by us and just a couple rafts, no rubber hatch- all after 11am. Aside from the heat, it really felt like we were fishing a river up north- cold water, fish rising and no traffic. Here on the Guad, it is not often that we get such opportunities to sight-cast using dry flies to so many fish. Opportunity is now, Truly a Great Day!

SEE THE FRESH FISH VIDEO for today's dry fly action

Despite flooding river predictions, rain and wind. we had two great days on the Guadalupe and the San Marcos Rivers. Brett and Gary of the Texas Fly Fishers out of Houston made nasty weather predictions turn into great fishing memories. On the first day of their trips on the Guadalupe River, Canyon lake was scheduled to release 1200cfs and we were told that we may not be able to fish untill noon and fishing was going to be tough, we fished the enitre day with stretched lines and perfect conditions. The second day we decided to hit the San Marcos and again, nasty weather was predicted to make our day miserable. We had little rain and nice flows throughout, again making another relaxing and enjoyable day to fish.

These two days reminded me of an old fisherman saying......"The best time to fish, is when it's raining and when it's not"!

Fishing has been incredible! Two ReelFly boats netted over 25 fish on March 26th, with avg size fish of 16" and some going to 22-24"! The flows are perfect and, in my opinion, the fishing is the Best it's been all season. Tim, pictured, landed two incredible fish that you would expect to find in places like the White River or Colorado. Take a look at the gallery to see some of the latest action.

Trout fishing is still excellent on the Guadalupe River. The flows are perfect and trout fishing has been holding steady with good numbers of healthy big fish. Lately our weather has varied from sunny calm days, to windy rainy days and the fishing outcome has remained the same- GREAT! Since the recent high flows, the fish are holding in areas that we've not seen in years, allowing steady fishing opportunities throughout the entire float. Our prices allow anglers the opportuninty to not only take great float trips, but also have enough left over change to get a nice place to stay. For the same price other guides charge for a day on the river, you get a full day float trip for two as well as one night of lodging at The Creel, complete with a 6 person hot tub, fireplace and outdoor kitchen. What are you waiting for?......Call us today to make your reservations and take full advantage of this opportunity while you can!
